Note: This post is Post #1 of our original series on rest and restoration. We are reposting some of our favorite articles because we believe they’re just as important today as ever. We hope you’re challenged to think of rest in a fresh, new way and will invite others to join in.
Are you tired of being tired?
It’s a question we like to ask people and the response is usually a chuckle.
We ARE tired … and so is everyone else we know!
Rest is near and dear to the heart of God, yet glaringly absent from our lives.
We know how to run hard.
We don’t know how to rest well.
Bottom line – rest is not a reward.
You can’t earn it.
You don’t deserve it.
It is not a sign of weakness or inability. Rest is a matter of obedience, stewardship, and delight.
It is a priority (a call to sanity) that is too important to neglect.
Why?
Rest equips us to run the race in a power not our own.
And it is time for God’s people to engage – guilt-free.
Will you join us on this journey to revolutionize the race we are running and the rest we are meant to enjoy?
We call it Restorative Wellness and it is a journey into the heart of God. It comes to us through an on-going exploration of four, biblical rhythms that revive, replenish, and restore.
- Sabbath Keeping
- Sleep (and other simple stress-reducers)
- Stillness – personal prayer
- Solitude – stepping away from the fray because minutes matter, hours make a difference, and a day away delivers!
Exploring and embracing these four rhythms is an expedition that will challenge us at every turn. It convicts us in deep, tender places. It alters our priorities and plans. It is not for the faint of heart. It is an adventure at its best – learning how to run our race in a power not our own.
Would you like to jumpstart this exploration, dive in head first, and make this the best summer of your life? Check out the compilation of this blog series in our book Vantage Point: A New View of Rest, Rhythm, and the Work of God. You can purchase Vantage Point at Amazon.com

Bren,
Yes, rest is so elusive, so easy to neglect. Thanks!
