The Rest Revolution

Note: This post is part of our original series on rest. We are re-posting some of our favorite articles because we believe they’re just as important today as ever. We hope you’re challenged to think of rest in a fresh new way. Rest is near and dear to the heart of God.

Rest is near and dear to the heart of God, yet glaringly absent from our lives.
We know how to run hard.
We don’t know how to rest well.
Bottom line – rest is not a reward.
You can’t earn it.
You don’t deserve it.
It’s not a sign of weakness or inability. Rest is a matter of obedience, stewardship and delight. It’s a priority (a call to sanity) that is too important to neglect any longer.
Why?
Rest equips us to the run the race in a power not our own and it’s time for God’s people to engage—guilt-free.
Will you join us on this journey to revolutionize rest?
What’s your greatest challenge with rest? We’d love to hear from you in the comments or on Facebook – join the conversation!

Welcome! We’re a group that gathers around the theme, “There has to be a better way.” We’re finding it in the 4-word mission statement, “Run hard. Rest well.”
It’s a journey into the heart of God. It comes our way through an on-going exploration of four biblical rhythms that revive, replenish and restore: Sabbath Keeping, Sleep (and other simple stress-reducers), Stillness—personal retreat, and Solitude—personal retreat.
It’s an expedition that challenges us at every turn. It convicts us in deep, tender places. It alters our priorities and plans. It’s not for the faint of heart.
It’s adventure at its best – as we learn to run the race in a power not our own.

First time here?

  1. I just made plans for a two-day personal retreat…this took a lot of forethought, planning, and setting aside the finances to do so. I can hardly wait to see what God has in store!

    • Oh Liz!
      You’re making my day.
      God’s richest blessings.
      Anything we can do?
      Lifting up a prayer!

*Champions Rest — Equips Leaders — Changes Culture* The #1 social crisis today is overload and exhaustion. The church, in its current state, has little to say or offer.
God does. It’s clear, compelling and transformational.

      • Right now I am recovering from the flu and am 2 months post-op for colostomy surgery. I’m going through a job layoff, and my current workload is staggering.

My youngest has several chronic illnesses so we have upcoming appointments with new specialists.

I’m also going to school to earn an MBA in public health administration…if all goes as planned, I will be done at about the time of layoff. At thst time I will pursue my God-given passion for patient advocacy.

Obviously, I am a bit overwhelmed and am intentionally taking this retreat during a school break.

I’m a single mom, and my daughter goes back and forth between her dad’s and my house. Fortunately, he is very supportive, and I asked him to keep her an extra week this next time and to keep her the weekend of the planned retreat. I have so much on my plate right now that if I don’t take this break I know I will crash.

Prayers for all of the above would be greatly appreciated!

          FULL plate, indeed!
BIG God . . . whose arms and heart never fail us.
You are a wise woman. Wise, wise woman.
RETREAT is so much better, so much more inviting, restorative and God-honoring than CRASH.
Most choose crash and the damage is extensive.
          You, go girlfriend!
          Our prayers are with you.
He hears each one we lift up for you now.

          Onward!
          The count down begins.

    • Yes !
I am still trying to figure out God’s direction to us, for a quieting of our mind.
      It is a universal issue.
For me, going outside is always helpful.
It wakes up my senses…the feel of the wind or sunshine on my face. The bird’s song, the outdoor smells. It grounds me in the moment … and there is often a quieting.
      Hug !!!
